Success in Entertainment
I want to talk to all of you who are trying to work your way into the entertainment industry as a performer. I want to ask you firstly what is your definition of success?
Let me tell you why this is so important. Because if you don't know what YOUR definition of success is, then YOU won't know when you have 'made it'. You also put yourself in the uncomfortable position of not knowing how to get there! How do you get from your home in Basildon, Essex, to Florida USA if you don't know where it is, what roads to take to the airport, what flight to catch and at what time? You wouldn't plan your journey so badly so don't plan your career so badly.
Secondly I want you to be totally honest about your talent, your artistry, your work rate, your commitment and your dedication to your goal success. Do you have the talent to become a million selling artist? It's no good saying I will grow along the way. Are you good enough now? Do you have the presence and the confidence of a million selling artist/band now??? If your 'honest' answer is not quite, then your next question should be 'How do I get the confidence and the presence?' Let me tell you this in return for your answer. You will not walk, talk, think and act like that because you are a million selling artist/band!
You will be a million selling artist because you walk, talk, think and act like one!
Think about your future and where you want it to go. Think about where you want to go. And finally 'Are you doing whatever it takes to deserve that success?
Now I know that the slightest mention of Geri Halliwell from the Spice Girls, and you will probably go onto tell me about her lack of talent as a singer, but what if I was to tell you that in order for her to achieve her success, she took regular singing lessons, dance classes, practised probably twice as much as others that were far more talented and that she would travel to London on next to no money and go to 5 or 6 auditions in one day! And this was something that she did on a regular basis, and when I say regular I mean every weekend for months on end until she got her 'Lucky' break. Did she deserve her success? In my eyes...
Yes she did!!
The ironic thing is that there was no luck in her break at all. Geri just did whatever it took.
