Professional Sales Training - How the Most Misunderstood Concept in Sales Can Sell You More

Professional sales training:

The sales meeting had just ended and Sam was hanging around until most everyone left. Tom the sales manager who conducted the meeting was gathering his paper work from the meeting. Boss I have a question for you, Sam said a little hesitantly.

Whats up, Tom responded with a smile.

I know what you say about the importance of prospecting is true but I still find it a very difficult thing to do, said Sam.

Tom responded, I dont understand, prospecting is a very fun part of sales. How are you doing it?

Sam explained, When Im in a public place like a gas station or grocery store I simply walk up to people and ask if they want to buy a car. The people I approach are always not interested and many of them look at me like Im crazy.

Tom laughed, Now I understand why prospecting is very difficult for you. Prospecting is so much simpler and easer than you are making it.

Prospecting in my book is just three things. It is letting people know:

  • Who you are
  • Where you work and
  • What you do for a living

It is not going up to a total stranger in Wal-Mart and asking them if they want to buy a car.

But in a sales training class once a guy told us a story and that is how he did it, Sam said in a puzzled tone.

That approach may make for an interesting story but the real professional sales training programs dont teach that high rejection rate approach, Tom explained. They use the almost no rejection prospecting approach which goes like this.

Say youre sitting at a ball game waiting for the game to start. And you turn to the person next to you and just start small talking. Then you say, By the way Im Tom Canfield. And then they will typically introduce themselves because you did it first.

Then you say, I sell cars for ABC Motors, what line of work are you in. Then they tell you.

Next, one of two things typically happens.

If they are in the market for a car they usually want to talk to you about it.

If they dont bring up the topic of cars you can simply ask them for their business card and give them one of yours. Then you put their information in your data base of prospects and now you have someone to follow up with in the future when they are ready to buy.

Youll make adjustments in this approach depending on the setting youre in, but it is really a very simple and effective way to prospect, Tom concluded.

With a look of relief Sam said, Now those are prospecting sales tips I can do.

How to Identify Birds

As a continuation of our how-to series we are going to talk about how to identify birds. Perhaps birds aren't really your cup of tea. Well believe it or not, it can actually be quite entertaining to be able to identify birds. Birdwatching has always been a popular pastime, especially with noble men and royalty.

In fact, bird watching is still a rather popular hobby. However, it can take a little time and research if you plan to sort through the many airborne creatures that inhabit this world. If you ever had any doubts, why don't you try it for your self?

It would be quite impressive if you could actually identify the various birds that you came across in your travels. That would probably catch them off guard. The great part is, you don't really need much to get started. A decent pair of binoculars and a bird book should do the trick quite nicely.

Have you ever seen an unusual looking bird that really caught your eye and wondered, what is that? At that point I bet that you have the knowledge to the to identify birds.

I myself can remember seeing beautiful birds as a child that inspired me to want to learn how to identify birds. Growing up in the country certainly has its high points, but the true value of the experience is in interacting and appreciating nature around you. As an example, my grandpa taught me how to identify birds. He initially I had no interest in it, however, as I grew and experienced camping and fishing much more, I eventually wanted to know how to identify birds. And then that spread to a natural curiosity of plants and other things in nature. While identifying birds is a fun past-time, having the ability to know the different properties of plants should certainly be beneficial. I found that out soon after I contracted poison ivy. That incredibly annoying rash that I got absolutely drove me nuts.

After spending a beautiful springtime on the Colorado River with my grandpa and sisters, I was really starting to come into my own as far as having the ability of how to identify birds. Learning how to identify words is not a difficult skill in the least. There is mountains and mountains of reference books can be used. You can also go on the Internet where there is an abundance of information that you will find helpful. The key to great bird watching once you've learned the names and characteristics is a great pair of binoculars.

While you initially become an avid birdwatcher, you will eventually no doubt opt for a more expensive, higher-quality pair of binoculars. That ideal pair of bird watching binoculars can make all the difference in the world and help you learn how to identify birds. After all, if you can't see them you can't identify them.
