Learn to Fix Registry Errors Free

Fixing registry errors doesn't always mean a trip the to repair shop or an expensive piece of software. Some might not know this, but there is a built in function in windows that allows you to manually edit and browse the registry without the use of software. This is where you can fix registry errors free of charge, all you need is a bit of knowledge before you start changing things.

RedEdit is the free registry editor that comes with windows. It's basically a browsing tool that allows you to view the structure of the registry, all the different registry keys, sub keys, and values held with in those keys. If you know what you're looking for, or what might be causing an error you can easily find it in there and remove, modify, or edit the data that's causing the problem.

You can access RegEdit by clicking your Start Button -> Run - > Type RegEdit

This will bring up the Registry Editor in Windows

Be Careful

When you're fixing registry errors for free, yes you're saving a few bucks and some time, but be careful with what you're changing. It's important that you create a system restore point in windows before you change anything. This will ensure you can revert back to old settings before anything was modified.

Also, be sure to research what you're changing. The registry structure isn't as straight forward as say your My Documents folder. So paying special attention to what you're deleting and changing is important to avoid lost or corrupt system settings.

Going at it Semi Manually

If you don't mind spending a few bucks to avoid having to study what all the folders, and directories mean in the windows registry you can get a piece of registry repair software that will still give you the manual ability to say what gets edited or deleted and what gets left alone. The difference is that the scanning will be done by the software so you don't have to learn how to navigate the RegEdit interface.
